Youth Ministry
High School Youth Ministry
- The purpose of the high school youth ministry at Lake Murray Community Church is to develop young people for the glory of God. (I Corinthians 10:31)
- The name of this church ministry is FLoC, which is an acronym for Faithful Lovers of Christ. The name of the youth ministry reflects the vision of the group, that the students will be faithful in their love of Christ and towards each other. (Matthew 22:37-39; I John 4:20)
- The purpose and values of the youth ministry is congruent with those of the whole church. (For an explanation of those click here.)
- The strategy to accomplish our purpose with the youth and see our vision become reality is fourfold. Youth, like adults, are to be worshipping, reaching, equipping, and walking. Though the techniques to bring this about in the youth demographic may differ from those used by and for adults, there is the same demand of discipleship placed on young people as there is on everyone else.
- Worshipping (Psalm 99:5; Romans 12:1,2) by the FLoC is accomplished not only through song, but also through a life of surrender. Some particular ways that worship is done in the youth ministry are: praise in song, praise in times of prayer, keeping each other accountable for one another’s actions, and seeking at ministry activities to be fed for a life of spiritual service.
- Reaching (Romans 10:13-15) is accomplished through going out into the community to share the gospel of Christ, by conducting every activity in a manner that is above reproach and making sure that every word said is consistent with the message of the gospel so as to be a light to any lost who come to a FLoC activity, by doing specific activities of an inviting nature to start relationships with unbelievers, and by encouraging the students to live in accordance with the gospel which includes an unabashed view of that saving gospel (Romans 1:16).
- Equipping (Ephesians 4:11-16; I Corinthians 12:7, 11) is done by teaching, by giving opportunity to every student to use and develop his spiritual gifts, and by group and individual counsel from mature believers.
- Walking (Ephesians 2:10; I John 2:6), like all of these are to be done both inside and outside of any group activities. Every activity that we do is aimed to bring the youth both individually and collectively towards this lifestyle, but no one event can produce walking as a lifestyle. Walking with God is something that is done as a person lives their life in view of Him and His will for them.
- When this all happens:

- On Sunday evenings from 5 to 7 we have youth group.
- On Wednesdays at 8pm we have high school AWANA.
- We have monthly student leadership, called “The Core,” meetings.
- We routinely schedule get-togethers besides these weekly activities.
